Times of India Obituary & Remembrance Ad Booking (2026)
The Times of India is the newspaper that every Indian family looks to for a tribute that can be widely seen. A notice published in TOI has a reach and credibility that is far greater than few other Indian publications, with print editions in more than thirty cities and those who follow the TOI e-paper in the diaspora, following it from outside India, and its readership spanning professional networks, residential communities, and diaspora families.
Public-NoticeAds.in is an authorised media partner for The Times of India. Whether it's a death announcement, a funeral notice, a Chautha gathering invitation or a death anniversary remembrance, we take care of the whole process — picking the right edition, laying out the notice, making sure it gets to the press by the deadline and getting your digital tear sheet prepared and delivered the following morning. Our staff are trained to deal with these bookings efficiently and sensitively as grief doesn't always arrive at “office hours”.

TOI Deadlines and Document Requirements for Next-Day Publication
The Times of India has one of the shortest deadlines of all Indian newspapers. Everything – final text, approved photograph, supporting text and payment – must be confirmed with us before the deadline, to ensure that your notice will appear in the following morning's edition.
For last minute / emergency submissions, please call us directly before 7:00 PM for next day publication. Late window slots may be subject to page availability and may have a publisher-side surcharge, but our team will provide you with a truthful answer regarding what is possible before you commit to bid.
Mandatory documents — TOI will not publish without at least one of the following:
- Official death certificate (scan or clear photograph of the original)
- Cremation slip/burial receipt (can be used for funeral notification for same day or next day funerals if death certificate has not yet been issued)
- A physician's note that contains the date and diagnosis of death on the letterhead of the hospital or physician.
TOI's need to verify the identity of the person making the booking – A scan of Aadhaar Card or PAN Card of the family member/representative making the booking request will be required for TOI's records. This is a standard requirement for all obituary/tribute category ads by the publisher and cannot be changed.
If any of these documents are not on hand, please contact us before assuming that they will not be able to book. In some exceptional cases, we can make recommendations as to the documents that TOI will accept as interim proof.
Photo Specifications for TOI Display Ads
The Times of India has always been very good on printing and contoured paper remains a technical limitation, though one that you should be mindful of before sending us a photo. The following is what works best:
- Resolution & Format: Include a high-resolution (JPG or PDF) photograph. Images from WhatsApp or social media are often compressed to much less than 300 DPI, which is the minimum for clean newspaper printing. When scanning a hard copy photograph, choose a resolution of 300 DPI or higher.
- Colour TOI ads: If advertising in colour: Submit the clearest and brightest version of the photograph available (Bombay Times and some supplement positions). Our design team will convert standard black and white Classified Display ads to a grayscale and adjust contrast for newsprint's ink absorption. A greyscale proof will be sent to you prior to submission to check if it looks OK.
The standard width of one column TOI obituary display ad is about 3.8 to 4 cm wide. Two column ads are about 8cm in width. We'll let you know the size of text and photograph area your notice needs to be.
If the photograph has a suitable background or a suitable framing, then we remove a detail of the background or replace the background with a light or white tone for the photograph, which is not charged for anything. A border style of your choice – plain black frame, double-rule or a religious or cultural symbol (Om, Cross, Khanda, Star of David, crescent or others) is also added to make the notice look structured and dignified in keeping with TOI's house style.
Key Features of Our Times of India Obituary Booking Service
- Authorised direct access to TOI: We are empanelled with Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (The Times of India's publisher) which means all our submissions are direct, all slots are confirmed and all our rates are real not inflated third party rates.
- Emergency and late window processing: Death notices often require immediate and/or late placement. Our staff is especially equipped to deal with last minute requests and can handle TOI's late submission up until the point of press release live. Let us make a preliminary call; we will advise you instantly what is possible.
- Bilingual coordination within the TOI group: If the need arises for the coordination of bilingualism in the TOI group, Maharashtra Times is a TOI group paper. Vijay Karnataka is also a part of the group for Kannada. Translation into Marathi or Kannada is available and is done free of charge, we coordinate all the bookings at one time, through one point of contact.
- Digital tear sheet within hours of publication: As soon as the edition is live on TOI's e-paper platform, we capture the relevant page and send you a clear PDF or image via WhatsApp and email. Families use this to share the notice with relatives abroad, post it in community groups, or retain it for estate and legal records.
- Free layout design and formatting: Whether you have a detailed draft ready or only the most basic information, our team prepares the full ad layout. We handle typography, photograph placement, border styling, and spacing — and send a proof for your approval before anything goes to the paper.
Why Book Your TOI Obituary Through Public-NoticeAds.in?
We offer tribute and condolence bookings to specialists who deal with such ads on a daily basis. We know what TOI requires for each of their editions, and where obituate classifieds go, as well as any premium page opportunities that may exist for larger display ads. That institutional knowledge equates to time that families don't have.
- Access to all 30+ TOI editions at one desk: If you're in Mumbai and require a TOI booked for a friend's professional network in Bangalore and if you are an NRI family member in Dubai who needs TOI booked for your professional network in both Delhi and Mumbai – we'll handle all at one place in one conversation.
- Successful track record: placing more than 10,000 public notice and tribute ads in India. TOI obituaries and remembrance notices are a large percentage of that volume and the process, the form, the documents, are ones we use every day.
- Accurate and clear pricing: We will give you a detailed quote (inc. GST) prior to confirmation. No hidden fees after paying. If a date or page position is not available, we will notify you in advance and suggest alternatives – not take a booking and then disappoint you with a lesser result.
- Compassionate, slow service: Families who sign up for an obituary don't have the luxury of a transactional process. For we do take the time to check and double check all details, spelling, the dates, family names, religious symbols etc, of anything published, as there is nothing worse than an error that causes distress and is avoidable.
Why The Times of India Is the Right Choice for Your Tribute
- TOI is the widest English newspaper in India due to their combined print and digital reach. The notice is not just published in the TOI paper but also in the professional and business circles, former colleagues and family members in other cities who read the paper.
- Few platforms rival the social impact of The Times of India's obituary and remembrance pages, such as Times Tributes, which are dedicated to public tributes. A TOI publication is considered as the final public announcement by families, housing societies and organisations.
- Courts, banks and government offices universally accept a Times of India clipping to be accepted as authoritative proof where a family needs to show that a death or estate notice was published.
- E-paper archiving for long term access: TOI's e-paper archive is one of the most comprehensive and easily accessible e-paper archives in India. Important, in the case of estate matters that take time to be fully resolved, a notice published in TOI can be retrieved and verified years later.
- Single notice to multiple cities: TOI's multi-edition infrastructure is allowed to display the same notice in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and other cities in one go, a feature we arrange for you with a simple brief.
