I am a local businessman, and like my father and grandfather, I never tried to become a government employee; instead, I chose to be a business owner. When I finished my studies my father told me to take control of our family business. My grandfather had a printing press and he was a self made man, and he became very successful in business then my father took the charge. But I personally didn't have any idea on printing presses so I chose to start a business of home appliances. It is never an easy task to launch a new brand and grow fast in such a competitive business ecosystem of Mumbai but fortune favours the brave and I became successful in a very quick time. It was a whole new brand and I worked very hard to establish my brand and I was successful. Now I am an owner of a flourishing mid-sized home appliance brand that is based in Mumbai. It was raining outside and I was thinking that \u201cit was a mistake\u201d! Two years ago when my business started to flourish I allocated a huge part of my marketing budget to the digital channels, I heavily relied on social media ads, search oriented ads, and marketplace promotions. I thought that it would give me very quick success but I was absolutely wrong and my strategies started to backfire and all of a sudden things became worse for me. I sold utility products like mixer-grinders, induction cooktops, and water purifiers mainly and l had shops in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and a few Tier-2 cities across Maharashtra such as Nashik, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Latur. My business was growing very fast and very soon I became a successful young businessman and I had to hire employees for each and every shop. But I was playing a high pressing type game and was trying to emerge as a national brand very quickly. So for almost two years I allocated almost 80% of the marketing budget in digital advertising, including social media marketing, online advertising, and in wrong marketplace promotions. I thought it was a decent idea. We were visible online, and the results spoke for themselves: wide views, high impressions, and plenty of clicks. But I was noticing something unnatural, we were visible from everywhere in India or outside India but I was now in a doubt how many local customers are really visiting and making positive enquiries, from places like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Laturmy! Or how many people became interested about us in the entire Maharashtra! It was meaningless for me if thousands of people were visiting us online from each state of the country, because my brand was a Maharashtra based brand and a people can see us online from Kolkata Bangalore or Delhi but they will never come across to my places for purchasing these products, it is natural, they will buy it from their local market or from online. (Flipkart as an example ). That's when I realised why wise people say that \u201cslow but steady wins the race.\u201d I wanted to achieve success very quickly, and wanted to emerge as a national brand but I had neglected the local market!
